As a Machinist Level 3 located in Commerce, CA, you’ll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one.
Our Commerce, CA site is in search of Machinist 3 to join our growing team on 2nd Shift (2:15pm - 11:45pm) 9/80 schedule.
Roles and Responsibilities:
As a Machinist 3 you will work on and inspect the next generation composite structures.
In this role, the machinist is responsible for but not limited to:
- Setting up and operating Horizontal HAAS, DMG Mori lathe and 5-axis DMG Mori milling machines.
- Determining sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup.
- Plan machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
- Measuring, marking, and scribing dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining.
- Fitting and assembling precision parts into mechanical equipment and determining material, parts, and equipment required.
- Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
- Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
- Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
- Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock to display placement of cuts.
- Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs.
- Check workpieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated and cooled.
- Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
- Support and implement new, customer-focused processes in accordance with lean principles and practices.
- Provide training and coaching to improve standard work, work center organization (5S), and housekeeping. Actively provide change leadership as required.
Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED and 4 yrs of additional education and/or related experience
- CNC 5-axis machining experience required
- Experience with composite, honeycomb, and aluminum materials, forging and all hard metals such as stainless steel and titanium.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, production specifications, production diagrams, assembly drawings, and technical specifications.
- Experience with GD & T
- Experience in following written set-up instructions and /or performing unique set-ups.
- Experience in complex measurements and advanced shop math calculations relative to tolerances, dimensions, tooling, and feeds and speeds
- Experience running machines and setup.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associates degree or Trade School certification w/ minimum 5 years of experience.
- Experience with HAAS GM2 5-Axis Controller
- Demonstrated ability to resolve unforeseen, unique issues as they arise in machining a part.
- Ability to understand verbal and written work instructions with knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and disciplines.
- Ability to work flexible hours, overtime, and weekends as needed.
